This was the evening Chi had been planning for so long. Just the two of them.. finally. No misbehaving automobiles, no lost puppies, no fat aunties to distract him. And he was coming home.
Chi was whipping herself into a frenzy. Cleaning the flat, plumping up the new floor cushion, checking on the biriyani mellowing in the rice cooker, agonizing over the music, cursing the rock hard cucumber pack on her face that wouldn't let her smile break free. She wanted to smile all the time, and sing.. he was coming home tonight.
She peeked out of the windows every now and then, for the sheer joy of looking for him. And caught a bunch of cows dumping serenely right outside her window. Scowling, she banged the window shut and yanked her brand new curtains. And brought out the scented candles.
......................................................................................
It was seven, and they were curled up before the TV, watching Little Miss Sunshine. Or at least he was. She was staring out of the corner of her eye at his knee cap. Her heart was racing with anticipation, nervousness, excitement and something else she couldn't recognize. But it stopped when he turned down the volume and casually pulled her closer. She could feel him smiling at her and when he came closer to whisper into her ears..
MMMMMMMMBBBBBBBBAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!
"What the???"
( oh please dont let those bleddy creatures start now please please please)
"Oh.. hmmm.. yeah.. there's this barn behind my.."
MMMMMMMMMMMMMMBBBBRRRRROOOOOOOOOOO!!!!
"That cow doesnt sound too happy", he says, leaping up to throw her windows open and peer into the darkness.
The cow doesn't sound happy??
"Just chuck it now, lets get back to.."
"Maybe there's a snake in there with it. Look all the other cows are joining in now"
All the cows. And a dozen goats. And the jobless mongrels. All creatures great and small that plotted to steal him away.
"I'll go check on it, it sounds like its crying for help. You sleep tight now, will call you later"
"But.. the movie.. my biriyani.. wha..eh?"
She was yelling into the darkness by then.
Cows. Bitches.

OK that does it, I am going to Kerala this weekend.
Kraz: come to think of it.. haven't had my romantic rendezvous interrupted by cows back in Kerala. where are all the cows???
Little Miss Sunshine: I love that movie so much!!
I hate cows/bulls on roads.....
Hey, my comment had nothing to do with romantic interludes or their interruption. The words beef biriyani leapt out and consumed what was left of my resolve. So buying tickets and going home. As to where the cows are - I think I already answered that ;)
Kraz: beef biriyani. hmmm... naah. wouldn't mind making that trip to try out beef/ pork kasthuri, though. or even beef pickle. oh maybe kadukka fry... pathiri? hmmm...
chi's he dishturbed the cows nuzzling and guzzling? verr bad
Cynic: Chi cant compete with ze cows :(
Was it funny or was it sad, I don't know. But he called back :)
