Just back from another house hunt that fizzled out. Perhaps it is high time somebody took it upon themselves to cross check the ads that are placed in AD Mag and the other yellow paper, much like they do for matrimonial sites. Hell.. I'll do it!!
There is something about free ads that makes (probably) normal house owners wax eloquent. "Spacious, brand new 1BHK, walkable distance from Kempfort. Very good location" trilled one little ad. MY FOOT! Tramped around for the better part of an hour before somebody pointed out this incredibly narrow lane gaily decorated with streams of pan- stained spit. I bolted.
Dont get me wrong, I have nothing against a good, healthy jaunt to the bus stop. But I do object to being told to "swalpa adjust madi" by grinning old men who think I know no better.
And then there are those who reveal details in instalments.. like clues in a treasure hunt. At the very last minute they'll inform me that their grandfather insists they let the place out only to bachelors/ IT professionals/ families. When I ask them where their grandfather had been during the umpteen telephone conversations we had, I'm greeted with a "swalpa adjust madi, madam".
And then there's the motherly variety.. the kind I can so do without. "Why are you staying aloooone?? Why cant your friends come.. I have this niiiice 2BHK. Wont you be scared? Why cant your mother come? What is wrong with your family? Why do you want to be alone.. do you have a problem?" yes I do! I hate being badgered!
Still sitting here with the blasted AD MAg. Hoping for a break. Sigh!
