I love pillars. Doric, Ionic, who cares? I love them all. There's something infinitly comforting about huge, old pillars. Their strength, their obvious commitment, their dignity and quiet beauty. Ancient wooden columns are my favourite- the granite ones scrape my arms and cheeks. Every pillar I meet first gets a tight hug. And then I slowly go round and round with one arm still wrapped around it. I love the way ancient wood flows like silk beneath my moving palms, love the colour, smell and feel of all that stolidity.

Perhaps thats why spirits seem to prefer pillars when they cant find rooms to haunt. I have never heard of ghosts or spirits settling on the roof or the kitchen lintel, for example.

I can see why they love pillars - it must feel like snuggling into a bear hug :)

Gosh! I love them too....my favourite is the coolness of a marble column. I always touch it just to feel the cold shiver...and put my cheek on it...and I always feel safe around them...stoic and strong..that's what they say to me..
