Another year, another Valentines Day... and Chi is dreading it already.
Let me be perfectly up front about something- Chi does not like Valentines day. This - the most pampered, most sought after of all days - has never, ever done anything for her. Its another matter that she has never needed it.
But for some reason she squirms all through Feb 14.. anticipation builds up like acidity and makes her green in the face. And at the end of it she doesnt know whether to be sorry or glad that it was just like any other day. I mean.. all that squirming should surely have led to something, right?
That got her thinking the other night about all the promises of ever lasting love and chubby fair babies ever made to her. She looked up at the ceiling and addressed the friendly mosquito buzzing merrily around her head
"a) 1st yr BA. The guy from the physics department who whacked my other male friends with a hockey stick. Married.
b) Best friend from childhood who took my hand in his, looked deep into my eyes and said " Chi.. face it. Nobody can stand you as long as I have. We might as well get hitched you know...just as soon as your face clears up". Married his other friend three months later.
c) Creep at the temple. Creep in journalism class. Tea seller at Coimbatore railway staion. Married. Married. Gone."
With this reassuring recap of her many years of courting Chi rolled over, clutched her trusty Ingo (after pushing the stuffing back into his leg), gave the mosquito a friendly pat on the head and slept happily. Valentines Day. HAH! No thank you!
